Youth Challenge

The Event

Showcase school spirit and win art supplies for your school.

The Youth Challenge will have 20 spots available for teams from local high schools and youth groups to create their own works of art in the time-honored tradition of Italian street painting—with chalk as the medium and the pavement at the canvas. There is no fee to participate in this fun event, and it gives area schools and youth groups the chance to compete for art supplies that will go to their respective school’s or youth group’s visual arts departments. This is truly a great artistic and educational experience for teachers and students alike.

The Art

Each Youth Challenge team chooses their own project. Students may re-create an existing masterpiece by a famous artist, re-create an original image, create an original image designed by their art class. The Denver Chalk Art Festival can provide street painting tips and procedures to each school. We also offer chalk art workshops through our visiting artist program.

On the Friday night before the festival, one of our professional madonnari will host a “Tips and Techniques” workshop that Youth Challenge teams are welcome to attend.

The Artists

The Youth Challenge is open to teams of 3-8 high school age students. This event is open to high school groups or youth groups, and teams must be sponsored by their high school or youth group. We encourage teachers to draw along with their students at the festival to add to the learning environment.
